The Alhambra encapsulates Andalusian history and is one of the greatest architectural sights in Europe. The impressive fortress sits on a plateau that overlooks the city of Granada, on the left bank of the river Darro. Originally built in the 9th century the Alhambra was then renovated and rebuilt in the mid-11th century by the Moors. In 1333 it was then converted into a royal palace by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
